Barbaricum is seeking a Transition Advisor to provide support to the State Department's Bureau of African Affairs, Office of Regional Peace and Security (AF/RPS) and the African Union Mission In Somalia (AMISOM).This individual will facilitate AMISOM’s force consolidation efforts, mentor, and guide AMISOM’s stabilization efforts of integration and planning and set conditions for the implementation of associated activities before and during AMISOM operations that will enable the eventual transfer of responsibilities to Somali forces. Qualifications
  • US Citizenship
  • Master’s degree in security, development, international relations, public administration, business administration, or a related field (Or Bachelor's with two additional years of qualifying experience)
  • Two years of demonstrated prior professional experience relevant to post-conflict political coordination, stabilization, and transition planning in Sub-Saharan Africa, and which would require familiarity with Somali politics and AMISOM leadership and operational concepts, terminology, research, and policy literature.
  • 10 years military experience as a commissioned officer
  • One year demonstrated prior professional experience working with Somali Federal Government
  • Ability to write and speak fluently in English
  • Fluency in speaking and reading either Somali, Swahili, or French
